WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate vote which could bring the Lumbee Tribe to the doorstep of gaining full federal recognition is scheduled for Tuesday. The Senate will vote on the National Defense Authorization Act, the final version of which includes the Lumbee Fairness Act. The vote is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the U.S. Capitol.
A wide-ranging defense spending bill, up for a vote by the Senate on Tuesday, would also grant federal recognition to the Lumbee. It would become the biggest tribe east of the Mississippi with President Donald Trump’s signature.
